Gardening 101

Gardening 101

With summer just around the corner, memories of our childhood vacation time come rushing in, especially with the pandemic having us cooped up at home. It really makes you reminisce about the scorching heat that couldn’t keep you indoors, the popsicles half melted before it could touch your lips, cycling around the block until you switched to another equally strenuous activity and all the ways you kept yourself occupied to make the most of your vacation. But when the outdoors isn’t an option, 2020 taught us that picking up hobbies is the best way to spend your time. In our opinion, gardening is the way to go.

If you’ve been on the fence about gardening, just waiting for a nudge from the universe, this is it. We know gardening can seem tricky but, there’s really not that much to it. Caring for a plant just means you hydrate it, give it sunlight and show it some love. Sounds simple enough, right? If you’re still not sure about it, don’t worry. Stick with us and we’ll walk you through the process.

First things first, pick an open space that receives ample sunlight. If you don’t have an open yard, don’t worry, you can grow almost anything in pots. You can check our planter section for a wide array of planters. Here’s the fun part, deciding on what you want to plant. There is absolutely no criteria, so go wild. You can grow almost any plant you want if you’re willing to put in the work. Be it fruits, vegetables, flowers or leafy plants – it’s your call.

Once you have your garden space ready, it’s time to get your hands dirty. Do your research on the soil based on the types of plants you plan to grow. This is integral to the gardening process. It’s going to be the main source of nutrients for your plants so don’t be afraid to get down and dirty.

The next step is to plan the layout of your garden to ensure each section gets the care it needs. Bury your seeds about an inch below the soil, spray the top with a little water and that’s it, you’re done. With adequate and consistent watering over the next month, you’ll see your garden come to life. Finally, add the finishing touches by placing one of our adorable gnomes in your garden for a dash of good luck.
